Course run by Tim Dugdill, funded by Calderdale Council, hosted by Hebden Bridge Hostel.

Sept 3... Blackshawhead Fete


Sept 10 & 11...
National Heritage Weekend
at: The Birchcliffe Centre (just next door to us!)
11am to 4.30pm on both days, Pennine Heritage Trustees will open this imposing Grade II listed building to the public... Tours; viewings of the Local History Society Library and the new Pennine Horizons Digital Archive of historical photographs and oral history recordings; information on the exciting new developments being planned for the Chapel Hall; free refreshments.
National Heritage Weekend at: Hebden Bridge Town Hall
Sept 10, tours at 11am and noon, this Grade II listed building will be open to the public; facilitated by Trustees of Hebden Bridge Community Association, who are currently developing community and enterprise facilities at the Town Hall.

also Sept 10... Vintage Fair, Holme Street Arts Centre, 10am-4pm.
also Sept 10... 'Up the Buttress' - fun bicycle race up this ridiculously steep, cobbled historical street...

starting Sept 15... for 6 weeks...
Digging Deeper: Exploring Environmental Issues:

a 16 mile sponsored walk from Hebden Bridge to Walsden, looking at the many new woodlands planted by Treesponsibility in the Upper Calder Valley over the past 13 years (3 mile and 7 mile options available - see link for maps and directions)

August 6-7
... Hebden Bridge Vintage Weekend:
Vintage, veteran & classic vehicle rally, with stalls, live music and refreshments. Organised by HB Rotary Club.

August 21... Mytholmroyd Masquerade - an afternoon of mask-making and merriment;

July 9... Heptonstall Festival: magic, music and storytelling with folk dance, real ale, real food and craft stalls.


July 16... HB Transition Town presents...  
Local Green Economy Showcase & Street Party
at The Trades Club & Riverside School.

... Edible Garden Trail, organised by Calder Food Hub. Showcasing unusual and abundant gardens, allotments, pots, planters and plots.

JUNE:
June 11... Hebden Bridge Handmade Parade:
A
community-generated parade led by local artists; over 600 participants wear fantastic costumes and carry spectacular parade art... the parade culminates in a pagaent and picnic in Calder Holmes park.

June 25-July 10... Hebden Bridge Arts Festival

MAY-JUNE:

May 17 (monthly, 3rd Tuesdays)... Transition Town Social at the Trades Club.
6-8pm:
delicious hot food for only £3: World Catering by Halifax-based asylum seekers & refugees.

6pm-Late: short films, open mic, info exchange, drinks from the bar...   Open Invite, ALL WELCOME.

May 27-30... Hebden Blues Festival: What it sez... Keeping music live...

May 30-June 4... Pennine Spring Music Festival
 - Recitals, music workshops, rehearsals and performances, in the mediæval hilltop village of Heptonstall. Bringing together amateur singers and instrumentalists for a week of convivial music-making and performing. Expert tuition provided.

Open Workshops: materials and instruction will be provided for making costumes, masks, puppets or banners for the parade. Or, volunteer on a larger build led by a professional parade artist
Skills Classes: include withy sculpting, papier mache, stilting and samba. Participants will produce a project which they will then perform on the day of the parade. No previous skills required.


Parade School:
for week-long workshops in parade skills such as stilting, sculpting, puppetry, costumery and choreography, contact the parade artists via the link above. Parade School will be running workshops throughout the year.

June 5... Wadsworth Parish Boundary Walk: A 21-mile walk with refreshments provided at checkpoints; shorter versions possible. Entry fee £5-£10 depending whether you register in advance and whether you want a packed lunch or just drinks provided. Organised by HB Rotary Club.

APRIL:
April 8... It's Spring! We open our doors to individual travellers again. Welcome!

April 9... Hebden Bridge Transition Town  presents 'Give Away Free Day':
Spring clean. Clear out. Put on your doorstep. And check other doorsteps out...
Rules of play: clearly label your giveaways as Free Stuff. Respect others' property - only take
things that are labelled. At the end of the day, clear away any of your stuff that no-one wants.
There will be a stall in St George's Square from 10am with a map of participating houses/streets.
"One person's rubbish is another person's treasure"

Also on April 9... Calder food Hub present 'Seedy Saturday': Swap seeds and/or gardening tips at Hope Baptist Church noon-4pm; kids' activities, crafts and refreshments too. Admission £1.

November 6... Hebden Bridge Bonfire with stalls and kiddie-fairground-rides in Calder Holmes Park and a spectacular firework display visible from all over town...

Annual Readers' and Writers' Festival: meet the author sessions, poetry and history events, bookswaps and coffee mornings, poetry performances and story times, quizzes, nature walks and childrens' events.

There will be joint poetry events with the Ted Hughes Festival  October 15-17

October 7-10... Walking Women holiday based at Hebden Bridge Hostel.

October 9... Calder Food Hub host the "Fruity Festival" at Hebden's Hope Baptist Church.
To include: cookery and herbal medicine demonstrations; sale of local produce; plant and seed swap;
food mapping; films and documentaries. 11-4pm.

October 10... Dreadzone at the Trades Club. Wow - we've got our tickets!!!

October 15-17... Residential Poetry Weekend with Write Out Loud at the Hostel.
